notch2.jpg - 48.69 K Now it's time to cut a notch in the bark. Carefully note the location of the notch in the examples on the left. The shape, size and location of this notch are fairly important.

I think the most important thing is to not make the notch too big. When you cut this notch into the bark also cut into the wood just enough so that you will have a marker for later on.

Cut the part of the notch closest to the mouth piece by pressing straight down with your knife blade. Then cut the other side of the notch with your knife at an angle and going towards the mouth piece and the first cut you made.
